Reading

Reading is a town situated 37 miles west of London. Historically, it was an important trading and religious place, now it is a commercial centre and serves as retail centre and base of large corporations. Reading's historic landmarks include Maiwand Lion, The Blade, Jacksons Corner, a number of abbeys, and over 100 parks and playgrounds. Every year, Reading hosts one of the biggest rock music festivals in the country, Reading Festival.

Reading is an old town and a county of Berkshire. Its early settlement dates back in the 8th century. Reading is a convergence of both new and olden times.

Basildon Park is a 30-minute ride from Reading. Before it served as a barracks during the second World War, it was passed down from several owners. Now it serves as a gallery of remarkable collections of furniture and belongings of the previous owners, works of art from different parts of the world, and other special collections. The house itself is a wondrous neoclassical display which had been used a location of popular movies like Pride and Prejudice.

About 74 miles from Reading is the Dinton Park, a 450-acre country park where you can have fun and activities. This park is ideal for group activities such as rock climbing, a canoe tour, and swimming. As you simply cannot get enough thrill in a day, there are also accommodations for overnight stay. The Park also includes a play park for children. The estate is also a home of various endemic mammals, birds, and amphibians.

When you are in Reading, Reading Museum is hard to miss as it is the heart of the town and just a two-minute walk from the train station. The Museum offers various exhibits an exciting group activities. Its collections include art, archaeology, history and natural history. Perhaps the most popular display in the museum is the replica of Bayeux Tapestry - a beautiful embroidery that tells the story of the Battle of Hastings.
